Completed projects

What have been busy doing you ask? Oh just got a ruffled bag made for my mom (we are going to Florida in a week for our annual Sister's Weekend trip with all the other ladies in our family) and a dress for me. We needed something new for the trip :) and these cost nothing. I had all the fabric and made up the dress pattern and the bag pattern was here.

Sorry for the poor photos, but I just snapped them with the ol' iphone. I will be sure to get some pics on our trip with them. I cannot wait for the sunshine, waves and relaxing! What are you all working on? Anything beachy too?

Cheers everyone! Happy Spring!

Amy Barickman's Vintage Notions

We have a new book in the shop.....Amy Barickman's Vintage Notions!

I cannot say enough good things about this book.  I was lucky enough to get a copy from my Momma for Christmas, and then shortly after in January we ran into Amy at the airport coming home from the CHA show in LA. She said you guys need to carry my book for all your stitchers! And poof.....we have it now! It is a wonderful Mother's Day gift-a book any woman would treasure.

Amy really did a HUGE amount of research for this book. She Had the writings of Mary Brooks Pickens (the gal would could rival Martha Stewart with her crafting knowledge in my opinion--and win!) behind her as a starting point and she added to them all the wonderful images and ideas.

The book is divided by seasons and so inspiring. There is sections on fashion, sewing, cooking (many vintage recipes included) and inspiration.

Take a closer look at the toaster cover above....it says : Hot Toast makes the "butterfly"! So cute!! I am going to have to make a cover for my four slicer with this image, I just love it!

I just love these roosters. I don't know if it is the colors or the simplicity, but dog gone those are some cute roosters. I can only imagine the linens collection Amy must have after this project. I think my favorite part of the book is a section on up-cyling a man's dress shirt into an apron. It is so cute and a perfect idea (sorry I didnt get a snap shot of that one-I will have to include it when I make one). Does anyone else out there already have  copy of the book? let me know your favorite section!

Happy Reading and Stitching all!

Beautiful Embroidered Book Covers

Oh my goodness. I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful I think this artist is. When I first saw her Monster Quilt I was amazed.

Now I am amazed again. Artist/Illustrator, Jillian Tamaki is the genius behind these wonderful stitches. She has three book covers coming out in October. Hop on over to her blog to see more of her work.

She is certainly giving all of us stitchers more pride for our craft and dreams of more beautiful book covers to come!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Fiber show in the UK

Wanted to share some beautiful artwork from fiber artists in the UK.

An article about the exhibit is here.
They took a famous work of art and replicate it. Andy Warhol redone above and Picasso below on the left. I think the Girl with the Pearl Earring is my favorite. Such talented people!

Well, have a great weekend all. I am off on a road trip...stitching and 80 degree weather here I come!

Ready for some Summer heat!

Well, we had our first day of 80 degree weather yesterday, and it has me in the mood for summertime. I get to go to Florida for the first time next month, and I think I will be sporting this new shirt!

I used our 80's Vibes pattern on a clearance shirt from Target, repeating the sunglasses part three times.  I think it turned out rather cute. Now it just needs to warm up so I can wear it (back to 50 degree today in KC)!

Do you guys have any fun summer trips planned for the coming months?
